Loss Control Field Consultant Services
LMCIT loss control field consultants provide assistance in evaluating your city’s practices and overall liability regarding employee health and safety programs, as well as provide on-site assistance. Field consultants help minimize losses by identifying, evaluating, and providing control measures to reduce the chance of a loss.
Annual Visits
Each LMCIT member has an assigned loss control field consultant. Cities with a population over 700 receive an annual visit with their field consultant. Cities with a population under 700 can request a visit with their field consultant. During our annual visits we will review losses, discuss LMCIT’s current loss control initiative, and answer any questions you may have.
LMCIT has a new loss control initiative every year. With each initiative we have a list of questions we ask members to get a better idea of how we can assist. We also provide resources related to each LMCIT initiative; past initiatives have focused on topics such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), workers’ compensation, ergonomics, fleet safety, and employee wellbeing.
Members can also request additional visits or assistance on topics they need guidance on, including any of the following.
Loss Analysis
Field consultants work with your city to help reduce employee injuries and losses. During your annual visit, field consultants review workers’ compensation and property casualty claims to identify trends and offer suggestions to reduce the severity and frequency of losses. Doing a loss analysis helps guides efforts toward addressing common trends such as sprains and strains, slips, trips, and falls, auto accidents, and liability exposures.
ADA
Field consultants can help identify common accessibility barriers and provide practical solutions to ADA requirements in your city parks and facilities.
OSHA Standards and Resources
Field consultants can provide resources to help you meet OSHA training, program, and inspection requirements. We do not provide OSHA training or mock OSHA inspections.
Sanitary Sewer Assistance
Field consultants can assist with best practices for sewer policies, maintenance, and inspections. This assistance is a great place to start when making short- and long-term decisions about your sanitary sewer system.
Property and Vacant/Abandoned Building Survey
Field consultants can assist in a walk-through of your city buildings to make recommendations on ways to reduce potential property and liability exposures. This survey includes areas such as fire safety, Life Safety Code, and general liability.
View the inspection checklist for vacant property (xlsx).
Fleet Safety Assistance
Field consultants can share best practices for fleet operations and maintenance of vehicles. We can also provide resources to manage exposures to your fleet and drivers.
Public Works and Parks Assistance
Field consultants can help identify various loss control strategies to help reduce potential liability within public works and parks departments. This could include areas such as sidewalks, streets, playgrounds, and parks and rec programs.
Workers’ Compensation and Reducing Workplace Injuries
Field consultants focus on common workers’ compensation claims and how to reduce them. This includes areas such as strains by lifting/pushing/pulling, ergonomics, training injuries, slips/trips/falls, and cuts/punctures.
Workplace Security Surveys
Field consultants offer risk and physical security assessments for your city buildings to identify threats and vulnerabilities, and can provide suggestions to improve security.
Loss Control Training Opportunities
Field consultants can provide tailored training to members, delivered in person or virtually. We do not provide OSHA training. Members can request customized topics, but some of our most popular trainings include:
- Intro to LMCIT
- Incident Investigation
- Workers’ Compensation and Basic OSHA Recordkeeping
- Setting Up a Safety Committee
